Besstel run a special Covid-19 support project during the pandemic and provided support to some 22 households where a family member had a mental or emotional health problem and was at risk of their condition worsening. The most common conditions were anxieties and profound depression. A significant number of beneficiaries had lost employment or other income streams and unable to afford essential household needs, including groceries.
Apart from reducing the risk of deteriorating mental and emotional health conditions, the project also prevented households from getting into states of destitution.
Additionally, Besstel supported families who had been bereaved because of a Covid-related loss. The support included visitations, bereavement counselling, as well as assisting the families communicate with hospitals, funeral directors and solicitors.
