Besstel (UK) was launched in 2017 to provide preventative and early intervention support to the Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community in South London from Black African descent with histories of low-medium level mental and emotional health problems or at risk of developing them or exacerbating existing conditions.  The operational area of this project covers the four (4) South London Boroughs with the largest Black African descent population. These are Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Croydon

The BAME population in South London which are largely minority immigrant communities are characterised by severe socio-cultural and economic pressures such as unemployment, low skills and wages, poor social housing, immigration issues, poor educational outcomes, and high levels of family dysfunction.
